MAPS is delighted to announce that it has today, been awarded a three year grant by The Big Lottery Fund – Reaching Communities.
This grant will enable MAPS to provide a dedicated stream of mentoring that will support young people aged 8-19 years who are classified as young carers or as MAPS like to call them, Young Heroes.
Helen Gasparelli, MAPS Manager said “We are overwhelmed by this announcement and are delighted that we can support this inspirational group of young people. Young carers give much of their time caring for others, often putting themselves and their own needs last. This grant will enable these young heroes to have time for themselves and to simply be a kid”.
From June 2015 MAPS will be able to provide mentoring spaces purely for young carers. Each young person referred will have a dedicated handpicked volunteer mentor who will meet with them each week for a year.
MAPS would like to take this opportunity to Thank The Big Lottery Fund for this generous grant and to all those involved in supporting this application.
